One of the most discussed Hollywood projects to recently get the greenlight is a remake of Footloose (the musical about an ultra conservative preacher’s rebellious daughter who fights for teenagers’ right to dance in a 1950s small town.) Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford was just cast as the male lead and word is getting out that Miley Cyrus is being considered for the female lead (against Hayden Panetierre, Amanda Bynes and Julianne Hough, who have all auditioned.) Miley hasn’t auditioned and E! isn’t joking when they say she doesn’t need to audition.
When some apparently-random fan called Miley fat little did they know they would be rewarded with days of news coverage. But it’s obviously a slow moment because here we are. The New York Daily News chronicles Miley’s body issues, quoting a Twitter post in which she lamented her ‘jiggly’ theighs days before she went out in a bikini looking amazing and came home angry. Meanwhile hecklerspray writes “Don’t Call Miley Cyrus Fat (Because She’ll Never Shut Up About It.)”
Auditions are being held in Savannah, Georgia for a few roles in The Last Song. It’s going to be filmed there so they want local color. If you’re in the area and want to give it a try here’s the info.
Same old story, same old song and dance. Miley was photographed over the weekend hanging out at the beach in a bikini and apparently somebody - unnamed, unspecified - called her fat because she got on Twitter and went on a tirade. The person insulting her was obviously just being mean because she looked awesome. But Miley told them they should read stories about the effects of hyber herassment, referring to a case where a girl committed suicide after a prankster used MySpace to destroy her self esteem.
Miley’s love interest in her new Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook) movie The Last Song has been cast. Liam Hernsworth - Australian hottie - will be playing a beach volleyball player with Ivy League dreams. I haven’t read The Last Song but Sparks’ books are always A) brilliant, B) devestatingly bittersweet and C) inspiring. So don’t expect lite Disney fare…
For some reason, Spencer (from The Hills) decided to post his cell phone number on Twitter. Make it available to the entire world. Of all of the people in the world who could have taken advantage of this, Miley called him. The idiot missed the call, but he says he’ll be answering his phone all day, so if you ever wanted to talk with Spencer here’s your chance.
When Miley and her mom decided to do charity work together they didn’t simply allow photographers to snap pictures of them that would be auctioned off to save puppies or something. They walked in a long, long marathon just like every other mother/daughter team in the Walk For Women. Miley’s celebrity did seperate her from the other walkers in at least one way, though. By walking she made sure people like me wrote about her cause. Can’t exactly fault her for that. A belated Happy Mother’s day to all you moms out there!
Miley recently commented on her Twitter feed, “Vote for me for the MTV Awards prettttyyy please :)”
Isn’t she cute? You just can’t turn her down. So vote for Miley using the online ballot.
E! Twitterverses has a cute article today poking fun of one of Miley’s recent posts on Twitter. Miley said, “ive had McDonalds 4 days in a row! should i break the routine???” E! replies, “We’ve heard a lot of people that are always all “What is Twitter? Why do you Twitter? I don’t get it!” Well, Twitter exists so we can help Miley Cyrus decide if she should have McDonald’s again or not, which is really a tough question because she has seen Super Size Me and still craves it. This is crowd-sourcing, guys.” Cute.
Miley has made a lot of headlines in recent days because of her much-publicized pledge to remain a virgin until she’s married. “I want to keep my virginity until I marry. I was brought up in a Christian family.” I don’t personally think it’s a good idea. Not the waiting for marriage aspect - that’s totally valid if that’s how she feels, or feels that God would want her to be. She should go ahead. But for her to make a public statement of record - given how badly the media wants to bring her down and turn her into the next Britney Spears - is very short sighted. A lot of people make that pledge. Some of them stick to it. Most of them ultimately choose not to - which is also valid. But when most of those people learn about themselves and the world and adjust their sense of what’s most important accordingly they have to put up with - at worst - some upsetting drama from their families. Miley’s decision would be portrayed hypocritcally almost everywhere because it would not only give the media a chance to bash her but their other favorite target, the Christian church. It will be national news. She doesn’t deserve that so she shouldn’t have fed the story in the first place in my opinion.
